My Tantra Journey: From Chagalls to Chakras

I had it all—the dream man, the diamond ring, a beautiful Paris wedding, and even a New York baby. I was living the Parisian dream in the Big Apple, complete with a prestigious MBA, an exec job, an Upper West Side flat, and Chagalls on the wall. Sounds perfect, right?

Yet at that specific, should-have-been glorious time of my life, I could barely get out of bed.

All I could feel was numbness, despair and mostly, disbelief.

I was already meditating at the time, and you know: praying is for asking, meditating is for listening. I sat on my meditation pillow and kept asking: "What’s my purpose?" And every time, I heard the same answer: "Teach Tantra."

I got so angry with that answer. I kept asking: no, tell me what kind of start up I should start, what tech field I should explore??? And what is Tantra anyway!!

So I put a lot of effort into ignoring that call. Listening to my inner voice was not the way I used to make decisions anyway. But then it grew louder. And louder. And louder.

And before I knew it, I was travelling the world, seeking out traces of the Goddess in every church, legend, and museum I could find. I found the Red Tents, the divine feminine, sisterhood, it changed my life.

After years of deep practice, an intensive apprenticeship with the incredible Ma Ananda Sarita, and further training with Layla Martin, I found my path as a Tantra teacher. It felt like coming home.

 

 

Tantra resonates with me in a way that even art never could. It’s a blend of counter-culture rebellion, connection, and the celebration of the sacred. For someone like me, who straddles both the nerdy and the mystical, it was a perfect fit.

Tantra transformed my life in ways I never thought possible, and I want to share that journey with you. If I can go from corporate life to full on personal bliss, I believe you can too.

 

What is Tantra Anyway?

Tantra is a term that often brings to mind images of sensuality and exotic practices, but let’s be clear: it’s so much more than that. At its core, Tantra is an ancient spiritual path that originated thousands of years ago in Asia, particularly in India. It’s a rich body of knowledge that includes  philosophy, practices, and rituals that weaves together the sacred and the human life.

 

The Meaning of Tantra

The word "Tantra" comes from the Sanskrit root tan, which means "to weave" or "to expand." This weaving metaphor beautifully illustrates how Tantra interconnects various aspects of life, spirituality, and consciousness. It’s about recognizing that everything is sacred, including the parts of ourselves we don’t really like or are ashamed of.

In essence, Tantra can be seen as a set of practices and teachings that help us explore the true nature of reality and consciousness. It’s not just about the physical; it’s about a spiritual journey of self-discovery and connection. Think of it as a guide that helps us navigate the complexities of life, offering wisdom that can save us from suffering and lead us to enlightenment. 

 

The Science and the Esoteric

Tantra isn't just about feeling high (though that's a pretty sweet bonus). It's about rewiring your brain and nervous system. 

 

Neuroplasticity: Your Brain's Yoga Mat

Our brains are constantly changing, adapting, and growing. This ability is called neuroplasticity, and Tantra has known that for thousands of years.

When you engage in tantric practices like meditation, breathwork, or mindful touch, you're not just meditating - you're actually creating new neural pathways. It allows you to transform the ways you understand and react to the world in your everyday life and is part of the liberation of your own cages, a foundational part of Tantra. 

 

The Interoception Connection

Interoception is your brain's ability to sense what's going on inside your body. Tantra practices, especially those focusing on subtle body awareness, can skyrocket this capacity.

By tuning into your body's signals - from your heartbeat to the tingling in your toes - you're strengthening the connection between your mind and body. It expands in a magnificent way how you experience your energetic body, pleasure and connection.

In Tantra, breath is life force. It's the bridge between your body and mind. Try this:

  1. Sit comfortably or lie down.
  2. Place one hand on your belly and one on your chest.
  3. Breathe deeply into your belly, feeling it expand.
  4. Exhale slowly, letting your belly fall.
  5. Imagine energy flowing through your body with each breath.

Do this for a few minutes, and you'll start to feel more centred and more alive.

 

Tantric touch: Turn your body into a treasure map

Tantric touch is about exploring your body with curiosity and presence. It’s a rare place where you can explore touch without expectation. Here's a little exercise:

  1. Find a comfortable, private space.
  2. Start by gently touching your face, noticing the sensations.
  3. Move down your body, exploring different types of touch.
  4. Pay attention to what feels good—there’s no goal here, just discovery.
  5. Stay in the present moment, let thoughts go, always come back to the sensation
  6. Feel the sensations expand
     

 

Energy circulation: flow and self-knowledge

In Tantra, we believe that energy flows in and through our body, and tantric practices will teach you how to play with that fabulous tool. 

Try this simple exercise:

  1. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed.
  2. Imagine a warm light at the base of your spine.
  3. As you inhale, visualise this light moving up your spine.
  4. As you exhale, see it flowing down the front of your body.
  5. Repeat this with each breath.

Pelvic floor power: amp up your sexual energy

Strengthening your pelvic floor isn't just good for your health - it can radically improve your pleasure potential and energy circulation. Here's a simple exercise:

  1. Imagine you’re trying to stop the flow of pee.
  2. Squeeze those muscles, hold for 5 seconds, then release.
  3. As you hold, imagine your energy moving up.
  4. Repeat this 10 times.

Do this regularly, and you'll start to physically and energetically feel so much stronger!

 

Tantric Orgasms: The Full-Body Experience

Tantric orgasms are to normal orgasms what the plastic recorder of our childhood is to a symphonic orchestra. Not that there is anything wrong with mainstream orgasms … it’s just that they are like a different species.

As I think about my journey, I can’t help but wonder: why isn’t everyone talking about this? Tantra offers profound insights and transformative practices, yet it often remains hidden.

Maybe it’s because our culture is uncomfortable discussing pleasure openly. Or perhaps the wisdom of Tantra has been overshadowed by conventional approaches to intimacy.
